Emirates delays second Birmingham-Dubai flight
Emirates has put back the launch of a second daily Birmingham-Dubai frequency in favour of adding an extra flight from Heathrow. The airline had planned a second service from Birmingham from March 10 but is adding a fourth daily frequency from the London hub instead. The UAE carrier is to re-schedule the second daily Birmingham flight when aircraft capacity becomes available. To compensate, the airline is to deploy a larger Boeing 777 on the Birmingham-Dubai route from March 28 to provide 75 additional seats over the 278-seat Airbus 330 currently used. The fourth daily Heathrow-Dubai flight will provide a morning departure at 08.30 from March 28. The schedule changes come on top of previously announced plans for a daily Dubai connection from Glasgow starting on April 10. As a result, Emirates will fly 11 times a day from the UK to Dubai by mid-April, with services from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow. Emirates UK & Ireland vice-president Shareef A. Raheem said the airline had been looking to add further capacity from Heathrow for some time. “Whilst this development will cause a temporary delay for Birmingham’s second flight, we will announce a new start date for this operation in due course. There is massive potential from Birmingham and we are seeing an encouraging market response but customer demand in the South is currently outstripping that in the Midlands, hence these developments.”
