Emirates opens First Class Lounge in Sydney

Emirates Airline together with NSW Deputy Premier The Hon. John Watkins MP today officially opened the state-of-the-art Emirates First and Business Class Lounge at Sydney’s Kingsford Smith International Airport.

The A$2.5 million Lounge is modeled on Emirates’ multi-award winning First and Business Class Lounge in Dubai and embodies the airline’s dedication to superior service and quality.

According to Emirates’ Richard Vaughan, Senior Vice President, Commercial Operations East Asia and Australasia, the opening of the Lounge signifies Emirates’ commitment to not only Sydney but the Australian market.

“Since commencing services in Sydney in 2003 we have been committed to providing our passengers with excellent service. The Lounge is one more way of extending the Emirates experience to ensure our premium passengers are pampered throughout their journey with us,” Mr Vaughan said.

“From Sydney, we currently operate a double daily service to Dubai and daily services to both Christchurch and Auckland. The Lounge will provide a luxurious sanctuary for Emirates passengers who currently travel to and from New South Wales.”

The Emirates Lounge is 880 square metres in size and caters for 160 guests making it the largest dedicated passenger lounge facility in Australia. Its features include marble imported from Italy, high quality leather for lounges sourced from Scotland, gold plated Rolex wall clocks from Geneva and designer bathrooms and showers.

The Lounge also features a business centre with eight individual work stations as well as an extensive menu prepared by a qualified on-site chef featuring both hot and cold dishes accompanied by full bar service including Pol Roger champagne.

“In May 2004, Emirates committed nearly A$19 million (US$13.6 million) over two years to develop superior-quality lounges around the world. Australia has been a focus for Emirates in the roll-out of its new Lounge designs, with a similar facility already open in Brisbane and another scheduled to open in Perth tomorrow,” Mr Vaughan said.

The Sydney Lounge facility is available to First and Business Class passengers as well as Gold members of Skywards, the frequent flyer program for Emirates and SriLankan Airlines.
