Empire State Building implementing surge-pricing
Tourists seeking a selfie with the iconic New York skyline backdrop will soon find it pricier than ever from the Empire State Building’s observation deck.
It could soon amount to more than $100 to ascend to the observation decks on the 86th and 102nd floors.
Empire State Realty Trust will implement dynamic pricing with the price determined by overall demand.
Tickets are currently from $79 for an adult, up to $96 for high demand sunset viewing.
CEO Tony Malkin unveiled the surge pricing policy during an earnings call.
“We expect continued growth in 2025. We are still below overall 2019 levels of volume and have room for upside as visitation levels improve,” he said.
It already has fluid pricing based on the time of day although using a pricing algorithm could see prices surge during high demand.

How will this affect travel trade operators who book visitors months in advance? They pre package travel to NYC and need a set price to have truth in advertising in most global destinations.
