Environmental focus for British Travel Awards
A new environmentally responsible tourism category has been added to this year’s British Travel Awards.
They cover most environmentally responsible airline, tour operator/travel company, hotel chain and individual hotel.
Once nominations are received, the nominated companies will receive a specific criteria form for completion relevant to their sector.
Federation of Tour Operators director general Andy Cooper and First Choice head of CSR Jane Ashton will be among a panel who will draw up the criteria for the categories based on their expert knowledge.
The completed criteria forms will be returned to the BTA voting office and passed onto a panel of experts with will judge the winners.
The winners of the environmentally responsible tourism awards will receive their trophies from Institute of Travel & Tourism chief executive Steven Freudmann at the BTAs in London on November 9.
Following the awards ceremony, the winners will be sent a special BTA winner logo which will clearly define their status as a company which the industry has recognised for their efforts in promoting environmentally responsible tourism.
A number of other new categories have gone out for nominations, including best business travel agency group, best business class seat/service, best hotel or resort spa, and best safari park.
