Etihad choses Berlin for first European head office
Etihad Airways has opened its first European headquarters in Berlin.
It will house the commercial teams for Etihad and its strategic equity partner, airberlin.
Etihad president and CEO James Hogan said: "It makes sound business sense to be based in Berlin, and close to our strategic equity partner."
"Germany remains a critically important part of Etihad Airways’ growing passenger and cargo network, and while much of Europe continues to face challenges linked to the prevailing euro crisis, the German inbound and outbound travel is performing well for us."
In total, 35 Etihad Airways employees will work in the new office, 25 of whom are German, with the rest coming from the UK, UAE, the Netherlands, Egypt, India, Italy, Pakistan, Morocco, and Switzerland.
Until now, the airline has not had a head office in Europe.
A spokesman said staff at the airline’s London office will be unaffected by the decision to open the Berlin office, which will house European and Germany sales and marketing teams.
In 2011, Etihad Airways purchased a 29% stake in airberlin, Germany’s second largest airline.
