EU ‘will take tough stand on Ryanair’
The European Commission is likely to take a tough stand against Ryanair and declare that some the benefits granted to the no-frills carrier are illegal, according to a report in the Financial Times.
The newspaper quotes sources close to the carrier who say Ryanair will also be made to repay some of the benefits it has received in return for basing itself at Charleroi airport in Belgium.
The FT goes on to predict that if such a decision goes against Ryanair, the carrier could find itself facing similar investigations regarding its arrangements with other airports around Europe; the EU has reportedly already received complaints regarding Ryanair’s dealings at Pau and Strasbourg airports.
The EU’s decision on the Strasbourg arrangement is expected later this month.
