Travel deal finding web company Travelzoo says it attracted more than 3.6 million subscribers to its European travel and entertainment publications in 2009.
Travelzoo saw an increase of 1,380,766 subscribers to the French, German, Spanish and UK Top 20 deals and Newsflashes, the largest annual increase since European operations started in 2005.
The company believes the economic downturn has fuelled this interest in the sites, which scour the industry for travel deals, test that they really do exist as advertised and present them on the site, with weekly top 20 deals highlighted.
Europe managing director Chris Loughlin said: “2009 was a remarkable year for Travelzoo’s European publications in terms of subscriber growth. The economic downturn spurred more travellers than ever to turn to Travelzoo to help find the perfect deal.”
“We saw more referrals from existing subscribers than in any other year in our history. Our clean, honest, no-frills approach to recommending outstanding travel and entertainment deals, that are really available, is market agnostic. Travellers across the world simply want the facts on how they can get the best deal, that’s what we do."
