Eurostar celebrates record-breaking month
Eurostar carried more than a million passengers in one month for the first time following the introduction of a new direct service from London to the south of France.
The cross-Channel train operator said numbers in July were up 5.1% year on year to 1.017 million.
Chief executive Nicolas Petrovic said: "We have seen unprecedented demand over the summer months as customers are taking advantage of our frequent services and new routes.
"With passenger numbers increasing year-on-year, we are looking forward to the arrival of our new trains. The combination of more seats, superior comfort and state-of-the art design is set to transform the travel experience."
More than 148,000 passengers are expected to travel with Eurostar over the August bank holiday weekend, with over 38,000 travelling from the UK on Friday, the busiest day.
Eurostar has sold over 100,000 tickets on its direct, year-round service from London to the South of France since it launched its service on May 1. The service stops at Lyon, Avignon and Marseille.
