Eurostar’s St Pancras becomes a destination in its own right.

Michael Davies, Eurostar’s Head of International Sales told The Mole today at Destination Britain that the company has not slowed down since the opening of the new, revitalised and stunningly restored St Pancras station.

With the restoration costing a massive £800million Michael said that previously St pancreas was not a great location, but a beautiful building, with marvelous architecture.

Now fully restored, St Pancras has become a destination in its own right, the whole place now bathed in natural light now restored to its former glory and even better in that we have the longest champagne bar in Europe, and the Marriott Renaissance opening  next year.

The whole setting and features are phenomenal and the ideal bonus is that you can go the destination station for a drink or dinner before you then jump on a train to Paris or Brussels.

We are fulfilling the romance of rail.

We have thought about just about everything and with St Pancras becoming a social hub in London and in the winter even the seats in the champagne bar heated, with each having an adjustable heating control – so no matter how cold it is outside, they will have a warming experience and absorb the atmosphere.

In train terms, we have dramatically reduced the travel time to European cities, with one   minute out of the station, into a tunnel under E London and then you shoot through to Epsfleet in Kent, a new station and on the continent and high speed right form the heart of London.

Michael added that the company had carried a record 8.26 million passengers in 2007 worth £599 million, up 15.5% from 2006.

International sales were also up by 22% and Australia in particular recorded the largest growth of any international market in 2007, up by 66%.
