EVA Airways’ chairman ousted in family feud

The chairman of Taiwan’s second largest airline EVA Airways has been suddenly ousted amid an internal feud brewing over family succession of the business.
Chang Kuo-wei was ousted as EVA Air’s chairman just months after his father and company founder passed away.
Chang had said his father wanted him to take over EVA Airways’ parent company the Evergreen Group which includes cargo shipping and hotel businesses, however this was opposed by his siblings, according to local media reports.
Chang was replaced by veteran Steve Lin at an extraordinary board meeting on Friday.
"The board feels that with this controversial situation happening, we should return to professional management personnel to lead the team," Lin told local media.
His father Chang Yung-fa died in January age 90.
"Before the founder passed away, he always wanted EVA run based on corporate governance. He did not say EVA had to be run by some particular person," EVA spokesman Golden Kou said.
