Ex Southwest Airlines employees indicted in ticket scam
Eight former employees of Southwest Airlines have been indicted by a federal grand jury with stealing over $1 million from Southwest following an FBI investigation.
The employees are alleged to have pocketed cash ticket sales and recorded them as ticket exchanges between 2000-2003. They were fired in March 2003 when the scheme was discovered.
No passengers have been involved or inconvenienced by the scam. Southwest has instituted controls to prevent a repeat of such activities.
Seven of the former employees are in the custody of authorities, who are still looking for the eight person. Each face up to five years in federal prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
