FCO issues new advice on Qatar

Saturday, 06 Jun, 2017 0

The Foreign Office has updated its advice following the announcement that several countries in the region have cut diplomatic ties with Qatar and some airlines have suspended services to the country.

The FCO said direct flights to and from the UK are not affected, but advised anyone travelling between Qatar and any of the countries that have cut diplomatic ties to contact their airline or tour operator.

The FCO said: "On 4 June 2017, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain and Egypt cut diplomatic ties with Qatar.

"There are reports of some border closures affecting road, air and sea routes between these countries and Qatar. This is likely to lead to a level of disruption, including for people travelling to and from Qatar.

"On 5 June Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Bahrain announced further restrictions on travel and residence affecting Qatari nationals. These restrictions don’t apply to British nationals.

"Flights between Qatar and Saudi Arabia and between Qatar and Egypt were suspended on 5 June until further notice.

"Other carriers are planning to suspend services from 12:01am on 6 June between Qatar and the UAE and Bahrain.

"You should check with your airline carrier directly before you travel. Direct flights to and from the UK aren’t affected."

The FCO reiterated: "Around 20,000 British nationals live in Qatar, and approximately 40,000 visit annually. Most visits are trouble-free."
