Finnair cancels flights due to clean seats
Who would think that cleaning airline seats could pose a security threat? Finnair had to cancel some flights due to additional inspections of eight Airbus 321 aircraft.
The reason for the suspension is information received from the seat cover manufacturer indicating that the impact of the seat cover cleaning method (water washing) on fire protection has not been properly verified.
In a communication, Finnair indicates that safety remains its top priority. The airline always follow the manufacturers’ maintenance instructions as well as the guidelines and recommendations of the authorities.
Due to the situation, a total of about 40 flights on Monday (13 October) and Tuesday (14 October) have been cancelled. Going forward, the situation may cause individual cancellations, changes of aircraft type or affect the operating company, which is discussed in more detail below. The airline apologizes for the uncertainty and harm this situation may cause to travelers.
To support its customers’ journeys with as little disruption as possible, selected flights are to be operated in cooperation with Finnair partner airline, DAT LT, effective 15 October. DAT LT follows Finnair’s service concept, and the DAT crew serves customers in English. The airline also announced that three of its aircraft are back in service from October 15.
However, for passengers wishing to change or cancel their flights due to the change in the operating carrier, Finnair advises to contact its customer service.
