Five feared dead in Australian bushfires
Five people are feared dead and houses have been destroyed in a series of devastating bushfires sweeping through Perth, western Australia.
One man, aged 62, died on the roof of his house as he battled a blaze and police said today that four other people were missing, with grave fears for their safety.
At least 46 homes have been razed to the ground and residents have been told they are unlikely to be able to return to their homes until Wednesday.
The fires erupted as Perth sweltered through its hottest night on record at the weekend – and there are fears that the fires will remain uncontrollable with temperatures expected to climb to close to 40C by next weekend.
