Flight Centre laying off another 1,500 staff
Flight Centre has confirmed more downsizing.
It is cutting up to 1,500 jobs with demand for overseas still stagnant and Australian international borders remaining closed indefinitely.
The jobs will go in sales and support roles.
‘Sadly, this is the case throughout the travel and tourism industries, with thousands of jobs already lost and, based on research released today by the Tourism and Transport Forum, tens of thousands of additional jobs at risk if the JobKeeper program is not extended,’ Flight Centre said.
"Within our business, up to 1,500 sales and support roles may become redundant in Australia once we make an assessment of the remaining limited work."
Thousand have already been furloughed or made redundant since the outset of Covid-19.
In March it said 3,800 Australian jobs would be lost out of a global total of 6,000.
Flight Centre says it has seen an uptick in domestic bookings as states begin to ease restrictions but revenue is still way down on normal levels.
