Flights cancelled as Nor’easter threatens New York area
As New York and New Jersey move towards working normalcy in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, a bitter Nor’easter with wind gusts of up to 60 miles per hour is descending on the region causing airlines to cancel flights in and out of New York area airports.
Bloomberg News reports that United and American cancelled most flights in and out of the area today and into Thursday. Nearly 500 flights have been cancelled by United at its hub at Newark Liberty airport. American and American Eagle have cut about 290 flights.
The news agency says other major airlines are monitoring the situation.
As with Hurricane Sandy, agents and consumers should check the airline websites for word on waived change/cancellation fees.
