Flights cancelled due to Italy strikes

Ryanair and easyJet have been forced to take action due to a 24-hour strike across Italy tomorrow (Friday).

The industrial action is due to start from midnight, causing disruption to air and rail travel.

Easyjet has cancelled some flights and is offering customers a free transfer to another flight or full refund.

Ryanair said the strike would affect security at Bologna, Pisa and Genoa airports and urged passengers to arrive earlier than usual.

"We ask that customers travelling on November 14 arrive at the airport as early as possible preferably three hours before their scheduled flight departure time to ensure they have sufficient time to clear airport," it said. "Other airport operations are not affected by this strike."

Alitalia staff are set to go on strike for four hours tomorrow (Friday) from 12.00 to 16.00 local time after talks between the unions and the airline failed to reach a conclusion.

Italian train operator Trenitalia will also be affected but plans to run ‘essential services’ including from Rome city centre to Fiumicino airport.
