Foreign Office updates advice for Tunisia
The Foreign Office has warned tourists that demonstrations planned in Tunisia today could be ‘unpredictable’.
It updated its travel advice to say that police and security forces are expected to stage a demonstration in protest against a decision to exclude them from voting in the forthcoming elections.
The size and impact of today’s demonstration planned to take place outside the National Constituent Assembly in Tunis was described by officials as ‘unpredictable’.
It follows the Minister of the Interior announcing that a group arrested with explosives near the southern border with Libya on Sunday had plans to attack industrial sites and tourist areas.
During the night of 27 May, gunmen attacked a house belonging to the Minister of the Interior, killing 4 policemen.
The Foreign Office said: "There is a possibility of further protests. These are not normally aimed against foreigners, but international events can trigger anti-western demonstrations."
