Foreign Office warns over Turkey
The Foreign Office has updated its travel advice to Turkey to re-iterate the threat of terrorism following the bomb blasts in Istanbul.
Two people were killed and ten injured when two bombs simultaneously exploded in two hotels in the Laleli and Sultanahmet areas of Istanbul. No UK nationals were reported among the casualties.
The Foreign Office urged people to be vigilant in all parts of the country, especially in the vicinity of potential terrorist target.
“Past examples have included sites, which symbolize Western (including UK) interests and symbols of the Turkish state,” said the travel advice.
A spokesman for ABTA said he was optimistic tourism would not be adversely affected.
“Generally these incidents do not have a long-term impact on bookings,” he said.
