Four bombs explode in Turkey
Four bombs are reported to have exploded in Turkish cities overnight, as the country prepares for the visit of the UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
According to the BBC News website, the explosions took place outside branches of the British bank HSBC in Istanbul and Ankara. There are no reports of casualties and the damage is reported to be relatively minor.
The BBC reports that Tony Blair is due to visit Turkey’s prime minister and president for talks on subjects including the country’s application for membership of the EU.
As reported by News From Abroad, scores of people were killed in Istanbul in November in several bomb attacks, two of which were aimed at British targets.
