France wants to impose a minimum ticket price to end ultra cheap airfares
Transport Minister Clément Beaune plans to propose a minimum price policy to the EU.
It ultimate aim of the policy is to reduce carbon emissions.
Minimum air fares would ‘fight against social and environmental dumping,’ he said.
“€10 cheap airfares isn’t possible anymore. It doesn’t reflect the price for the planet.”
Experts say this doesn’t necessarily solve the issue as it doesn’t address the environmental impact of frequent fliers.
According to research, 2% of people take half of all flights in France.
In the UK, 15% take 70% of flights.
France has taken some measures to ban short flights where train travel can be used efficiently.
However, European train tickets are often twice as expensive as flights.

Yet another brilliant EU policy initiative. This will only hit the less well off, as the politicians either fly in private aircraft or First Class. “Let them stay at home” - to paraphrase Marie Antoinette!
