Fred. Holidays expands rail holiday portfolio

Tailor-made specialist, Fred. Holidays has expanded its rail portfolio with new journeys now available in Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Morocco.

The expansion is in response to customer demand, with a 64% increase in rail bookings and a 58% increase in turnover year-on-year.

Sally Barlow, rail product manager for Fred. Holidays, said: “We keep an eye on the destinations where our customers want to go and listen to their feedback regarding how they get there and what they want to do when they arrive.”

“As a result, we have expanded our product offering with a collection of brand new rail tours for Europe and beyond.”

Switzerland

With enquiries for the Glacier and Bernina Express up 150% year-on-year, Fred. Holidays has added in new rail product in Switzerland.

GoldenPass Express Fly-Rail. The GoldenPass Express is the newest offering on the Montreux Oberland Bernois rail network, providing – for the first time ever – a seamless journey between the Montreux Riviera and the Bernese Oberland. This four-night trip includes flights from the UK to Geneva, two nights in Montreux, journey on the GoldenPass Express from Montreux to Interlaken, two nights in Interlaken, rail from Interlaken to Zurich Airport and flights from Zurich to the UK. Daily departures are year round with prices from £899 per person.

Lake Lucerne & Lugano via the Gotthard Panorama Express. In addition to boat and panoramic train, the Gotthard Panorama Express includes a complimentary luggage transfer service. This five-night no-fly trip showcases the contrasts of the lake regions in the German-speaking Lucerne and the Italian-speaking Ticino region. It includes return rail travel from the UK, two nights in Lucerne with breakfast, journey on the Gottard Panorama Express, three nights in Lugano with breakfast and vouchers for discounted local transport and entry to attractions. Daily departures between April and October with prices from £1,199 per person.

Spain

Spain is currently trending almost 30% up year on year so Fred. Holidays has introduced the Costa Blanca with a stay in Alicante.

Alicante by Rail. A seven-night trip to one of the UK’s favourite sunshine holiday destinations that includes return rail travel between London and Barcelona, two nights in Barcelona with breakfast, return rail travel between Barcelona and Alicante, five nights in Alicante with breakfast and overseas transfers. Departures available on request with prices from £1,699 per person.

Italy

Enquires for Italian rail holidays are up 100% year-on-year with Sorrento proving incredibly popular.

Rome, Sorrento & the Amalfi Coast Fly-Rail. This seven-night trip includes return flights from the UK, two nights in Rome with breakfast, first class rail travel from Rome to Naples, five nights in Sorrento with breakfast and a full-day tour to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello. Daily departures year-round with prices from £1,259 per person.

Italian & French Riviera with Cinque Terre by Rail. This seven-night no-fly journey takes in some of Europe’s most iconic coastlines and includes return rail travel from the UK, two nights in Nice with breakfast, a half-day excursion to Èze, Monaco and Monte Carlo, four nights in La Spezia with breakfast and one night in Chambéry with breakfast. Dates available on request with prices from £1,499 per person.

Grand Tour of Italy: Sorrento by Rail via The Alps. This 14-night grand tour of Italy includes rail travel from London to Lucerne, one night in Lucerne, journey on the Gottard Panorama Express, two nights in Milan, two nights in Venice, and three nights in Florence. It also includes a full-day trip to Pisa and Lucca, two nights in Rome, a guided tour of the Colosseum Arena and Forum, four nights in Sorrento with breakfast, a day trip to Positano, Amalfi and Ravello and flight from Naples to London. Selected departures between April and October with prices from £2,999 per person.

Morocco

In response enquiries about Morocco, Fred. Holidays has introduced a five-star rail journey that features a comprehensive itinerary and is ideal for the more adventurous traveller.

Five-Star Morocco by Rail. This 12-night tour includes rail travel from London to Barcelona, one night in Barcelona, rail travel from Barcelona to Cordoba, one night in Cordoba, a guided tour of the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba, and ferry from Algeciras to Tangier. It includes first class travel, five-star hotels and all overseas transfers in Morocco, three nights in Tangier, half-day guided tour of Tangier, day trip to Chefchaouen with an English-speaking guide, and one night in Rabat. Additionally there are two nights in Fez, a cooking class, a full-day guided tour, one night in Casablanca, half-day guided tour of Casablanca, three nights in Marrakesh with breakfast, guided tour of Menara and Majorelle Gardens, full-day guided tour of Marrakesh, excursion to the Atlas Mountains and a farewell dinner at Dar Zellij in Marrakesh. Dates available on request with prices from £3,999 per person.
