Fred Olsen to impose fuel surcharge
Fred Olsen Cruise Lines has followed Royal Caribbean International in adding fuel surcharges on 2008 cruise bookings.
Royal Caribbean announced its supplements in the UK a week ago. Now Fred Olsen has become the latest line to also impose extra fees to cover the rising cost of fuel.
Fred Olsen is adding £2.50 to all new bookings made on or after December 21.
“There will be no additional charge for passengers booked in upper berths, and there will be a cap on the charge of £50.00 per person for long cruise itineraries. This supplement will not be commissionable,” the company said.
“This move has become necessary because of the very high cost of fuel which has dramatically increased operating costs.
“This fuel cost supplement will be reviewed on a regular basis and may be adjusted as the price of fuel fluctuates.”
Fred Olsen has a fleet of four ships and is adding a fifth – Balmoral – in January.
Crystal Cruises has already added fuel surcharges in the UK while MSC Cruises is expected to follow suit in the new year.
