French ATC strike cancelled
French air traffic controllers have called off a two-day strike, which could have piled more misery on tourists travelling between the UK and continental Europe.
Their union called off the industrial action planned for Thursday and Friday after the latest round of negotiations.
Airlines had prepared to cancel thousands of flights due to the strike, which had prompted Ryanair to launch an online petition calling for such strikes to be banned or for other European air traffic controllers to be able to manage French air space during a walkout.
It says that when it has a million signatures, it will present the petition to Brussels and urge ministers to act.
British Airways and Ryanair said that following the 11th hour cancellation of the stirke, all flights will operate as planned.
Travellers to France have already faced disruption this week due to a strike by MyFerry Link workers which shut down the Port of Calais for three days and led to the suspension of trains services through the Channel Tunnel.
