French strikes hit flights

Tuesday, 28 Oct, 2010 0

Flights to and from France will be severely disrupted today due to more strikes by the country’s air traffic controllers.

French Civil Aviation Authorities have asked all airlines to limit their schedules due to action by ATC trade unions.

France has been hit by six general strikes since the beginning of September over proposed pension reforms to increase the minimum retirement age to 62.

Around 50% of flights to Paris Orly airport and around a third of services to other French airports are expected to be cancelled today.

Short-haul flights will be most impacted, while most long-haul flights expected to operate as normal.

Air France said it hopes to operate 100% of its long-haul flights but has cancelled some domestic and European flights.

EasyJet said it has had to cancel most of its flights to and from France and said other services may be subject to delay.

Ryanair has cancelled 200 flights from across the UK and Ireland to France.

British Airways said the number of cancellations would be small but warned of delays.

Train services are also likely to be hit, but Eurostar said its services will not be disrupted.
