Frontier backtracks on Trenton-Bahamas route
Frontier Airlines’ much lauded launch of direct flights to the Bahamas from Trenton-Mercer, NJ is now not going to happen – at least for the foreseeable future.
The ultra low cost carrier has cancelled the planned November 20 launch citing a lack of demand.
Frontier announced the route back in August with special fares from $79 but that has failed to spark enough interest locally, the airline said.
It would have been the first ever international commercial flight from Trenton-Mercer.
"It is our desire to operate service to Nassau at some point in the future though no specific date is being contemplated at this time," said Frontier spokesman Todd Lehmacher.
"The primary driver for this decision is less than forecast available hotel capacity that is having a material impact on demand for flights," Lehmacher added.
Frontier has also ditched immediate plans to start flights from Washington Dulles to the Bahamas.
Customers who had booked flights on the new routes will be contacted by the airline and offered refunds, or alternative flights to Frontier destinations in Florida.
