Fuel Supplements
I would like to inform Tui that AITO has been campaigning against fictitious fuel supplements for well over a year. It is nothing short of scandalous that it is only now that Thomson has decided to react. The travel industry, and specifically its leaders, have always acted like market traders. Why stop at fuel supplements? What about late booking fees, ticket on departure supplements and a host of other little extras that get our industry a bad name? Many more responsible tour operators have never charged fuel surcharges – even during the period of dramatic increases in fuel prices. Millions have been made by both tour operators and airlines and, unfortunately, the Government has failed, and is still failing, to act to curb these pricing policies. How can we, as an industry, object to an increase in APD when we are fleecing the pubic via fuel and other supplements? NOEL JOSEPHIDES for AITO Council
