Funding to aid tourism projects
Funding of nearly $8 million will be provided to support 53 innovative tourism development projects across Australia.
The funding has been made under the second round of the Federal Government’s $31 million Australian Tourism Development Program.
Among the projects receiving funding are the Gympie Undergound Mine Tours; the ‘World’s Largest Virtual Solar System Drive’ in Warrumbungle Shire; Seahorse World in Tasmania; The Chateau Tanunda Distillery Accommodation in the Barossa Valley; and the construction and fitout of a ‘fossil cave’ display room in the Alice.
Federal Tourism Minister Fran Bailey said the funding aimed to stimulate the domestic tourism industry and attract more international tourists to Australia.
Ms Bailey said the Red Hill Brewery on the Mornington Peninsula had been one of projects supported in the initial round of funding and had since taken on full-time staff to cope with the increased patronage that resulted from enhancing its premises as a tourist facility.
