Galileo poaches Sabre manager
Galileo has appointed ex-Sabre manager, Jason Clarke as its UK manager. The new role of UK manager has been created following a restructure of Galileo in the UK. Mr Clarke will be responsible for sales, new business and customer support in the UK, and will report to the regional director for UK and Ireland, Alison Bell. Mr Clarke worked for Sabre for eight years in a number of roles including operations manager and director of corporate programmes EMEA. Before Sabre he worked at Thomas Cook. Commenting on his appointment, Mr Clarke said: “The GDS’ are under increasing pressure to change their business model to ensure that they continue to deliver value to both suppliers and subscribers, and I believe that Galileo, as part of the Cendant Corporation, is the best placed to be able to evolve successfully in line with the market’s requirements.” In response to Mr Clarke’s comments about Galileo, a Sabre spokesperson told TravelMole: “Jason might be saying that now, but it’s interesting to note that Sabre Travel Network continues to grow in the UK, mainly at Galileo’s expense. Two former Galileo agencies, Japan Travel Bureau and Business Travel Partnership, have joined us over the past two months, and we’re in discussions with several others. These agencies obviously don’t share Jason’s faith.”
