Garuda grounds plane after Bali passenger confirmed with coronavirus

Garuda Indonesia has been forced to ground an aircraft after it emerged that a passenger who flew from Bali to China had coronavirus.

The airline said the plane would be disinfected before returning to service.

Meanwhile Bali health officials are trying to track the holidaymaker’s travel on the island to find out if others have become infected.

Bali Health Agency chief Ketut Suarjaya said there is ‘a small possibility’ the man from Wuhan, the epicentre of the virus, had contracted the infection before arriving in Bali.

"We will trace all the places he had visited. Of course, we will raise our alert," he said.

"We don’t know yet where exactly he was infected. We don’t know yet whether he was infected with the coronavirus before he went to Bali."

So far, 30 people who were feeling unwell have been tested for the virus but the results were negative.

There are currently two more patients in isolation in a Bali hospital awaiting test results.
