Garuda Orient Holidays to close offices in Australia

Sunday, 04 May, 2016 0
Travel company Garuda Orient Holidays said it plans to close down its operations in Australia.

The decision was taken due to the tough business climate, said general manager Beanca Daluz.

"We would like to assure our customers who have purchased their holiday with us that the travel arrangements they have purchased through us will be honoured or refunded if they wish. People who have paid a deposit can elect to pay in full before 31st May 2016 or get a refund of their deposit."

"We are also working with employees during this difficult time to minimise the impact of the closure. We are attempting to find jobs for staff in other parts of the Garuda Indonesia Group," Ms Daluz said.

The company employed 17 people in its Perth and Sydney offices.

The company is an independent unit of Indonesia flag carrier Garuda and the closure does not impact the carrier’s operations in any way, it said.

Daluz said changing travel booking habits are making it difficult for traditional travel arrangers like Garuda Orient to survive.
