Garuda touches down in Amsterdam
Garuda Indonesia has launched its five-times-weekly direct service from Jakarta to Amsterdam, operating a three-class Boeing 777-300ER.
The route will be extended to London Gatwick from September 8 using the same aircraft.
Travel time from Jakarta to Amsterdam and vice versa will be about 14 hours.
The airline has traffic rights between London and Amsterdam and travellers can leave the plane at Amsterdam and continue to London later.
Emirsyah Satar, president and CEO, Garuda Indonesia, said: "Following Garuda’s official joining of the SkyTeam, the opportunities presented by the established SkyTeam hub at Amsterdam are too significant to pass up, as it will be an alternative gateway for passengers who wish to travel beyond Europe."
With the operation of Jakarta – Amsterdam non-stop, Garuda Indonesia will leave Abu Dhabi and optimise its codeshare agreement with Etihad Airways.
Marking the relaunch of its services to Europe, Garuda has enhanced its relationship with Liverpool FC by becoming both the official airline partner and training kit partner of the Premier League club.
