Gatwick defends family friendly initiative
Gatwick Airport insists it has ordered more complimentary pushchairs due to popular demand and not because passengers are ‘strolling off’ with them.
The airport said reports that most of the buggies have disappeared, because customers are abusing the family friendly initiative, are untrue.
But it did admit that ‘a handful’ of pushchairs had been stolen.
The buggies have been designed to help families with tired children cope as they arrive after a long holiday flight and are meant to be left at the designated drop-off point in the baggage reclaim area.
But the Daily Mail reported that only five of the original fleet of pushchairs are still there after passengers taking them.
A spokesman for Gatwick Airport said: "No more than a handful of pushchairs have been stolen and we are simply ordering more because of the demand.
"We have had great feedback on Facebook and Twitter and we will continue to look at initiatives like these to help with their experience at Gatwick…"
