Georgia, Alaska properties earn sustainability awards
Little St. Simons Island in Georgia and Sadie Cove Wilderness Lodge in Alaska were awarded “Benchmarked” certificates by Green Globe, a global program for sustainable travel and tourism.
The Green Globe program addresses environmental, social and economic issues by focusing on key environmental and social impact areas. Participants must have a sustainability policy in place and meet or exceed various “benchmarks.”
The benchmarks address seven areas including energy consumption, community involvement and others.
Benchmark Certification, which must be renewed annually, is the next-to-last step toward achieving full Green Globe certification, which is the highest level.
