German cruise line sinks amid Covid-19 crisis
FTI Cruises has become the latest operator to abandon ship due to the Covid-19 crisis.
A spokesperson for Germany based tour operator and parent company FTI Group said the line will officially cease trading from 1 November 2020.
According to local German media, FTI Group is undergoing a restructuring to meet the challenges caused by the pandemic.
It will include cutting about 20% of its workforce.
It operated 400-passenger ship The Berlin on Caribbean and Mediterranean sailings, as well as selling cruise holidays on other ships.
The future of its ship, which was built in 1980, is still unclear.
It had been laid up in Malaga since cruises were suspended in March.
The Berlin was previously part of the Saga fleet for seven years when it was known as the Spirit of Adventure until 2011.
Other cruise industry casualties include Spain based Pulmantur and Cruise and Maritime Voyages which is under administration.
