Get in the swing at Vietnam golf camp
DALAT – Vietnam’s growing reputation as a golfing showpiece will be given another boost next month when the Dalat Palace Golf Club and Novotel Dalat will inaugurate a 4-day camp programme.
The camp, starting August 2, will be led by Kenny Saunders, a PGA Professional who recently relocated from the United States to serve as the golf pro at the Dalat Palace Golf Club.
“I’ve run many golf camps in the States, but in Dalat we’re doing something we never did in the States,” said Saunders. “We’ve tied the instruction to 4- and 5-star accommodation. This is a camp where luxury will be the order of the day.”
The golf programme focuses on essential golf skills with several hours of each day dedicated to drills and instruction. The programme also includes on-course instruction and an end-of-camp tournament.
“We’ve been getting all kinds of requests for a camp programme like this,” said Antoine Sirot, general manager of the Novotel Dalat and Sofitel Dalat Palace.
“Ten years ago, it never could have happened. But now, with more Vietnamese players looking for a venue to improve their game, and the country itself lighting up on radar screens as a destination for golf, the timing couldn’t be better.
“We wanted to give the student a chance to get away from the crowded courses where intimidation is a factor,” said Saunders. “They can come to Dalat, enjoy the beauty and have the best atmosphere possible to learn the game of golf.”
The camp is open to adults over the age of 18. Students as young as 16 will be accepted if they accompany adult family members.
The camp’s primary venue — the Dalat Palace GC — was recently hailed as the top track in Vietnam for the fourth time by Golf Digest (USA), and nominated as one of the top 10 courses in Asia by Asian Golf Monthy.
Golfers on the camp will stay at the 4-star Novotel Dalat that neighbours the landmark Sofitel Dalat Palace.
