Getlink reports first half collapse in Eurostar traffic
Eurostar passenger numbers collapsed in the first six months of the year, with Eurotunnel traffic also falling sharply, according to cross channel rail operator Getlink.
The company reported a 62% fall in Eurostar passengers crossing the channel, to just under 1.9m, while the number of cars carried on Eurotunnel tumbled 52% to 545,215.
Coach volume fell 65% to 9,362.
The April to June quarter saw the heaviest declines as Covid took hold.
The pandemic wiped out 98% of Eurostar traffic with less than 69,000 travelling on the high speed services while car and coach numbers fell 80% and 89% respectively.
Getlink reported an EBITDA of €123m in the first half, down 52%.
Revenue fell 29% to €369m.
