GHM to manage new Indonesia property

Saturday, 20 Sep, 2012 0

GHM is strengthening its foothold in Indonesia with an agreement to manage The Chedi Nusa Penida, a 100-villa resort scheduled to open in 2015 on a secluded island 10 kilometres southeast of Bali.

Developed by Singapore’s Sinni Villas, the enclave on Nusa Penida will occupy 5.3 hectares of a sloped hillside overlooking Crystal Bay, one of Southeast Asia’s premier diving sites.

Construction is expected to begin in the first quarter of next year.

To bring to life Spanish designer Ismael Pindado’s vision of the elevated, egg-shaped villas — a concept inspired by Nusa Penida’s standing as a bird sanctuary — Sinni Villas has hired Cubillo Y Esteban, a Madrid-based engineering firm with 25 years’ experience in the business.

The master plan for The Chedi Nusa Penida also calls for private helicopter and yacht services.

Villas are also available for purchase.

GHM currently operates eight luxury hotels worldwide, including two on Bali: The Legian in Seminyak and The Chedi Club Tanah Gajah in Ubud.

The Chedi Nusa Penida is one of several Chedis that GHM plans to launch in the next three years.

The Chedi Club Suzhou (China) and The Chedi Andermatt (Switzerland) are expected to open in 2013.

The other properties scheduled to open by 2015 include The Chedi Tamouda Bay (Morocco), The Chedi Taiping Lake (China) and The Chedi Khorfakkan in Sharjah (UAE).
