Gold Coast keeps whingeing!
A report in The Gold Coast Bulletin says that despite Tourism Australia seemingly ignoring the Coast in its publicity campaigns and some extra help would have been nice, but local businesses and the council have got on with the job of promoting the region and wooing thousands of potential domestic and international visitors.
Thanks goodness though, there may now be changes afoot.
Minister for Tourism Fran Bailey and Tourism Australia CEO Geoff Buckley visited the Gold Coast last week and local tourism promoters say they buried the hatchet during a fruitful meeting on the Coast.
Phew……….!!
The Gold Coast Bulletin goes on to say that it came not a moment too soon, with Gold Coast Airport extending its runway to cater for international flights, and the Gold Coast ready to welcome international visitors with open arms.
The Gold Coast has long been regarded as a summer getaway but is fast gaining a reputation as a year-round destination as their events list grows and this weekend, tens of thousands of people descending on the Coast from around the country to enjoy all on offer, including, Wintersun, Professional Bull Riders World Cup and GCBazaar’s Girls’ Day Out just to name a few, with something on offer for everyone.
Also, one of the Coast’s signature events, the Magic Millions National Sale, continues with buyers from around the world eager to grab a bargain equine buy.
Next month there is the Gold Coast Marathon and add to that the extension of the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre to reap the rewards of the Coast’s ever-growing popularity as an event and conference destination, the future looks rosy.
Accommodation houses, restaurants and a host of other tourism-related businesses are all enjoying the benefits with millions of dollars pouring into the local economy.
