Greece makes you fat, says Thomas Cook
New research published by Thomas Cook travel operators this week says that Greece is the heavyweight champion for adults packing on the pounds while traveling.
Vacationers typically gain a total of almost 4 pounds on visits to Greece, significantly more than travelers to the U.S., which came in at a relatively low fourth place on the "fat scale."
Thomas Cook cites all-you-can-eat buffets, high quality food at low prices and alcohol consumption as reasons for the weight-gain.
The survey also said that men get fatter on vacation than women. Women tended to gain around two pounds with men packing on close to six.
Fat Travel Stats: (based on a 10-day stay)
1. Greece (3.3 pounds gained)
2. Turkey (3 pounds)
3. Portugal (2.9)
