Greek carriers anticipate 4-hour air traffic control strike on August 28
Aegean and Olympic Air are offering passengers added flexibility ahead of a four-hour work stoppage by Greece’s air traffic controllers on Thursday, August 28, from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
The Greek Air Traffic Controllers Association confirmed effectively it will take part in a nationwide strike organized by the public-sector union ADEDY.
During the work stoppage, only overflights of the Athens Flight Information Region, government flights, Hellenic Air Force missions, and emergency or humanitarian flights will be allowed.
While the strike is still subject to a court ruling that could suspend controller participation, Aegean and Olympic Air have moved to ease disruptions. Passengers holding tickets for August 28 can rebook for travel through September 30 without fees or fare differences. Travelers may also cancel their bookings in exchange for a future-use voucher.
Until a final court decision is issued, Aegean and Olympic Air flight schedules remain unchanged. Customers can manage their bookings online or on the phone. The strike has been called in response to the introduction of disciplinary measures targeting civil servants. In a statement, ADEDY condemned the legislation as “anti-labor”.
