GSTC pairs with ecotourism conference in bonito

Delegates get double sustainable tourism for their carbon footprint to Brazil

Delegates arriving in Bonito this week can attend two conferences – the GSTC (Global Sustainable Tourism Council), whose aim is to deliver worldwide certification standards – will be held during the week whilst at the weekend delegates can attend the Ecotourism conference.

Two very different organizations – TIES (The International Ecotourism Society) is the grand old lady of ecotourism having been established by Megan Epler Wood amongst others in the early 90’s. Whereas the GSTC is the new kid on the block, working hard to spread its message of common accreditation (by GSTC, of course) of sustainable tourism certificates.

The GSTC  will be helped by its new CEO, Randy Durband – their third in 3 years – who is a travel industry professional.

And the Ecotourism conference  (their eighth annual) will deal with a vast variety of ecotourism-related subjects over the four days, including field trips.

As GSTC says "Both events give individuals the opportunity to learn more about GSTC and the groundbreaking work this organization is doing with partners all over the world. These programs will include learning more about destinations that have committed to adopting sustainable practices through a tested criteria. These events also allow GSTC Members to participate and showcase their sustainable tourism efforts."

"Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference, now in its eighth year, is a unique annual conference, which provides practical solutions to advance sustainability goals for the tourism industry. As a leading international meeting place for tourism businesses and destinations, the ESTC will bring together up to 600 professionals from all sectors in the industry and over 50 countries."
