Guest goes overboard during Windstar South Pacific sailing
A guest aboard a Windstar Cruises ship sailing in the South Pacific has gone missing after going overboard, the cruise line confirmed.
The American guest went overboard from the Star Breeze this week.
“Crew immediately conducted a full ship-wide search” when the passenger was discovered missing,” Windstar said.
“Windstar Cruises is deeply saddened to report that a guest aboard Star Breeze was confirmed missing. We extend our heartfelt condolences to the guest’s family and loved ones.”
“Star Breeze also retraced its route to support a man-overboard search until Navy aircraft arrived and assumed aerial operations,” a statement from the cruise line added.
The ship departed Papeete, Tahiti last week and was near the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia when the overboard incident is thought to have happened.
Star Breeze is due to dock in Papeete again on January 28.
Windstar Cruises hasn’t shared any details about the missing guest, but a local news outlet reported it was a male American citizen, aged 66.
Tahiti Infos reported a man is said to have jumped overboard following an argument, but this hasn’t been confirmed by authorities or the cruise line
The Star Breeze sails year-round in the South Pacific.
