Hard Rock Las Vegas details extent of credit card breach
Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas has revealed details of a seven month long data breach which has affected transactions at the hotel’s outlets.
The company said malware was found on point of sale systems for its restaurant, bar and retail shops impacting an unknown number of cardholders.
"The information potentially affected includes names, card numbers, and CVV codes, but does not include PIN numbers or other sensitive customer information," a Hard Rock statement said.
It said transactions at the Hotel, Casino, outlets Affliction, Hart & Huntington Tattoo, John Varvatos, Nobu and the Reliquary Spa & Salon were not affected by the breach.
The attack was discovered at the start of April and had been taking place since September 3, 2014.
"We have worked diligently with law enforcement authorities and a respected third-party information security firm to contain the incident and implement additional security controls," the statement added.
Customers should feel confident that we have taken the appropriate action allowing them to use credit/debit cards at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas property."
As Travelmole reported last month, PoS systems at hotel outlets are seen increasingly as a soft target for cybercriminals in part due to outdated security software.
