Harvey World Travel boss quits
Harvey World Travel managing director John Donnelly is to leave the Australian-owned agency chain “by mutual consent”.
HWT owner Stella Travel Services said Donnelly’s departure “was in line with the completion of a fixed term contract agreed in October 2004 when he joined the company following the sale and integration of the Travel Factory business”.
The existing management team will continue to run the business, led by Andrew Laurie, managing director of Stella Travel Services (UK).
Donnelly founded the Travel Factory in Cannock in July 2003, before it merged into Harvey World Travel UK in October 2004. Prior to that, he became managing director of First Choice Retail following the acquisition of the Holiday Hypermarket from West Midlands Co-op.
Laurie said: “John is a true entrepreneur and I would like to place on record our recognition of the role he has played in growing and developing the Harvey World Travel business in the UK.
“During this time he has developed the team and led the acquisition of the Let’s Go and Galaxy travel agency chains, entered a branding partnership with Virgin Holidays and created a strong network of 78 managed and franchised HWT travel agencies, along with a considerable affinity travel business.”
Donnelly said: “I am extremely proud of what we have achieved in a relatively short time and with Harvey World Travel now part of a growing Stella Travel Services group, I am sure the existing management team will continue to develop the business.”
