Hawaii most expensive US destination
Hawaii remained the most expensive place to visit in the US, according to the latest AAA survey.
The AAA Annual Vacation Costs Survey also says the price of taking a summer vacation will be up 5.4% over last summer.
A family of two adults and two children will be paying $559 a day for food and lodging in Hawaii, or more than twice the national average of $261.
Fuel costs and rising demands for hotel rooms are causing the higher prices.
“Rate increases for lodgings are mostly a result of supply and demand, especially in major markets,” said Michael Petrone, director of AAA tourism information.
Lodging rates in the US will average $141 a night this summer, up nearly 9% from last year.
After Hawaii, the most expensive destinations for vacationers are: The District of Columbia, followed by Nevada, Rhode Island and New York.
The least expensive states are North Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa and Oklahoma.
