Heathrow gears up for royal wedding celebrations

Monday, 18 May, 2018 0

Passengers landing at London Heathrow tomorrow will be treated to royal fanfare to celebrate the wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

The airport will be handing out 1,000 handmade ‘royal’ lemon and elderflower cupcakes, inspired by the couple’s wedding cake, to inbound passengers.

Passenger will also be greeted by a Queen’s Guard, Beefeater and patriotic bunting, as well as the sounds of a Royal Trumpeter.

TV screens across all terminals will be tuned to BBC News 24, broadcasting the wedding live.

Large scale event TVs in Terminals 3 and 4 will be tuned to BBC1 for additional royal wedding coverage.

The ‘royal welcome’ will take place in arrivals at the airport’s four terminals from 10am-4pm.

In the week leading up to the event, Heathrow welcomed 9% more arrivals from North America and a 3.4% growth of total arrivals compared to the same week last year.

"The royal wedding has driven an increase in international visitors who wish to experience a uniquely joyful British event," said Chris Garton, chief operating officer at Heathrow.

"What better way to do that than by arriving to a taste of the happy couple’s wedding cake, a traditional Queen’s Guard, Beefeater and Royal Trumpeter!"
