Heathrow security exposed again
UK: Current regime could easily be breached, says long-term airport worker
Security loopholes at Heathrow airport have the potential to put travellers at risk, according to a report in Holiday Which? magazine.
The Daily Express today reports that an airport worker who has been at Heathrow for 15 years told the consumer magazine it would be “easy” for terrorists to breach the current security regime.
He further claimed checks that SHOULD be routine are rarely carried out, adding: “The do it properly only if senior staff are present or we have a visit from the Department of Transport.”
Journalist Bob Tolliday, who wrote the article, told the Express: “You have staff waved through without proper checks and people who started work there the week before last walking through unfettered. You have to ask whether this isn’t a bit too relaxed, given the threat passed by the likes of Al Qaida and suicide bombers.”
Officials at Heathrow have promised to investigate the claims.
