Helsinki Airport gets its skates on
In October Helsinki Airport showcases its convenience as the ideal transit point between East and West with a unique collaboration between aviation partners and the skateboarding community.
Playing on its IATA three-letter code, the airport presents ‘A Match made in HEL’ on October 12 and 13.
Well-known Finnish professional skateboarder Arto Saari is leading a team of skaters from Asia and Europe in a skateboarding invitational at a special pop-up skate park on the airport grounds.
Helsinki Airport has become a major transit hub between Asia and Europe with 15 million passengers using the airport every year, and Finnair and Finavia plan to showcase the convenience and stress-free environment for air travelers.
"Finnair aims to double the revenues of its Asian traffic via Helsinki by 2020, and with this event, we wanted to highlight the benefits of Helsinki Airport in a new way – by showing the airport through the eyes of skateboarders", said Jarkko Konttinen, vice president for marketing and product at Finnair.
"Airports are often seen as stressful environments, and we have always wanted to show that Helsinki Airport is different," explained director of Helsinki Airport, Ville Haapasaari.
Skateboarders are asked to upload their skate videos at www.matchmadeinHEL.com for the chance to be selected to take part in the Invitational.
Videos of the event will later be posted on the Match Made in HEL YouTube channel and other social media platforms.
