Hilton plans multiple Waldorf-Astorias
Hilton’s recent announcement of a new Waldorf-Astoria in Orlando is part of a trend for the company to open another ten new Waldorfs to meet the growing demand for luxury hotels.
The Orlando property will be only the second Waldorf in the world; the original is in New York City.
“Hilton is building the Waldorf brand to boost its share of the profitable luxury-hotel market, dominated by companies such as Four Seasons Hotels Inc., and Marriott International Inc.’s Ritz-Carlton,” says Reuters.
The Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan opened in 1931 and was purchased by Conrad Hilton in 1949.
Hilton President Matthew Hart said the company debated whether to build the first new Waldorf in Orlando or Paris. But Orlando was chosen because of the growing demand there for luxury hotels.
Hilton also plans to build a 1,400-room hotel next to the Orange County Convention Center. InterContinental also plans a 1,260-room hotel called the Palazzo Del Lago just four miles from the convention center.
